The 40 Day Love Dare Challenge Day Twenty Three

Love always Protects verse

Love always protects.
1 Corinthians 13:7 NIV

What is an enemy? According to the dictionary, an enemy is a person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent.  What happens when an enemy or the enemy attacks your marriage?  You are now on a battleground.  Are you equipped with the proper defense to fight against it?  You’d be amazed at where and how the enemy will strike.  Sometimes it’s even with people who you think you know.

This happened to my husband and I a few years ago.  Talk about being thrown a curveball!  Something we never, ever would have thought someone would say to us, was said.  It seemed so far out of the realm of possibility that it would ever be said, but it was. It was obvious that Satan was using people to draw a wedge between us, to break us apart, but we stood our ground. We would not be moved.

Sure there were other times when things happened that caused us to go into our valley, but when we were faced with inaccuracies and slanderous talk, (you know how people love to throw stuff out there) we were a united front.

After being in the valley, we have learned that there is NOTHING more important than our relationship with God and protecting our marriage.  Our marriage is a symbol of God’s love and we will fight, protect and defend it to anyone or anything that comes against it.  If there is anything that is stealing or diverting your time and attention from each other, things need to change…and FAST!  Before you know it, your strong wall of defense looks more like a shabby pile of rocks at the side of the road.

Imagine your marriage as a castle, protected from all sides by tall, solid walls of stone.  Each time the enemy attacks (and it can come in different forms), the wall is hit.  If it happens long enough and often enough, large cracks begin to form.  Before long, the wall to your beautiful castle is down and the entire building is crumbling.  Do you rebuild or let the enemy take it?

Be a protector. Put on your armor including your sword and shield and get ready to battle. Pray to God to equip you with everything you need to battle the enemy! As it says in Ephesians 6,

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

You are a solider of God. Stand your ground.  Protect your marriage.  You will NOT BE MOVED!

 Today’s dare.

Remove anything that is hindering your relationship, any addiction or influence that’s stealing your affections and turning your heart away from your spouse.

At the end of the day, answer these questions:

1. What did you throw out first?

2. Are there others that need to go as well?

3. What do you hope the removal of these things will do for you, your marriage and your relationship with God?

Congratulations! You have completed Day 23! Tomorrow’s dare is Love vs. Lust.

Be kind and share!
