Book Review: A Faith of Their Own-An Experience Guide for Parents and Preteens & Enter to Win!

faithoftheirownAs of the writing of this post, I have young children who have awhile to get to their pre-teens. (or at least I am trying to convince myself of that!) I plan on keeping A Faith of Their Own for when my children hit that pre-teen age and I will be able to fully utilize this book. A Faith of Their Own: An Experience Guide for Parents and Pre-teens is a wonderful 52 week adventure that you can take your family on. The best part about it is it is an adventure where you will not only become closer to your children, but you will become closer to God as well.

The authors Chris Folmsbee and Tony Myles offer parents a practical, common-sense way of interacting with their children. Each week, parents are given a guideline so that they can prepare for that week’s lesson. There is a 6 pronged approach to each lesson.  Through the steps of prayer, scripture, experience, debrief, summary, and journal, parents will have the ability to ask thought provoking questions and also answer them for themselves. This process allows parents and preteens to open up to each other about their faith in ways that might never happen without the guidance of the lesson.

It is the authors’ hope that this book will allow families to have regularly scheduled time together and that a commitment to complete all 52 weeks will be done. Imagine that? A whole year of studying and living out scripture with your kids!

If you want to experience God more deeply and grow in a stronger relationship with Him and your preteen, please consider reading this book!
